Increasing irregularities in the electoral list

Before that, there are a lots of proven allegations of phantom voters, then we are hearing words from retired army personnel tampering hundreds of ballot papers during their service, later on claims of those outsiders with permanent residence status being upgraded to citizens and granted rights to vote.

And many more, some voters found in several states has already reach the age of 132 years. Recent findings from independent electoral watch groups had also indicated that there are voters names and details being duplicated in a few different voting areas i.e. different parliamentary and state constituencies. They have the similar names, same identity card numbers, but different addresses and date of births. And some of these voters were also found to have been duplicated in few different states.

Apart from that, army and police personnel also possess two different identifications, the one issued by the force while the other by the National Registration Department (NRD). Highly potential dual voters indeed as there is no proper mechanism to control and monitor them.

Despite continuous denial by the Election Commission (EC), hard evidence had also continue to surface following findings and analysis being carried out by several human rights and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to prove that the electoral rolls are in fact being tainted with such, we believed the BN government has been cheating the people for decades.

This is what Bersih 2.0 Rally is all about. We want the EC to make several reforms to enable its electoral rolls come up in a clean and transparent manner. We wanted the EC to be place under the jurisdiction of the parliament instead of the current prime minister's department. We want the entire electoral system governed by the EC to be totally revamped to reflect its orderly and just manner ready for any public scrutiny, if possible.

Efforts carried out by the BN government to contain and cover up such misdeeds had so far failed. The people are so unconvinced if the BN leaders were to say that there are no possible threat or cheating in the country's electoral authority. Clear evidence has been produced and circulated widely in public and there is nothing more EC nor the government could do even if some sort of damage control has been initialized.

Although EC had always claimed to be apolitical and fair to all, the EC had allowed itself to be under the jurisdiction of the prime minister's department, feeding these BN leaders with information on the voters, constituencies, boundaries, voting trends, the people's sentiments and getting voters shifted from one place to another without prior permission.

So, this country really has a big problem. Democracy in name but we are not enjoying our real democratic rights as we are supposed to be, due to our rights has been constantly violated by such irregularities aimed at ensuring the corrupted and power crazed BN remain in power for as long as it could.

EC should ask ROS to register Pakatan quickly

The Election Commission (EC) had recently advised the current opposition pact, Pakatan Rakyat comprising PAS, PKR and DAP, to register their coalition so that they could use their logo in the coming general election. EC deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said the coalition should be registered because the opposition parties were always seen violating regulations of the election campaign, especially on the use of their logo. Datuk Wan Ahmad seems to be overly ignorant and too forgetful on this issue. The EC deputy chairman should ask the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to quickly register the Pakatan instead of calling on Pakatan to register itself. Pakatan Rakyat had earlier send in their formal application to register itself as a coalition of political parties since November 2009 and ROS has yet to register the said entity till today after delaying and creating so many hassles for more than a year. USM fiasco a shame

I read and heard with irritation and felt disgusted with the fiasco committed by the apex status university called Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) which caused untold anguish to the affected students and their parents. If this happened in Japan, the Vice-Chancellor would have done the honourable thing - take full responsibilty and leave, but here in Malaysia, as expected, the blame is shifted here and there, trying to make someone a scapegoat. By the way, would there be any racist or sabotage elements involved? Those who are responsible for this fiasco should be sacked or expelled immediately.

Federal Constitution that Safeguards the Legitimate Rights and Interest of All Malaysians

The provisions of the Federal Constitution are very clear. It confirmed the position of the Malay Rulers, Islam as an official religion of the federation and special position of the Malays and the natives in Sabah and Sarawak whilst recalling that those provisions balance those special positions with safeguards to protect the legitimate rights and interests of the other communities in Malaysia which also includes their right to profess and practice their religions freely without being fear of any threats or being harmed by anybody. The legitimate interests of the non-Malays and non-Muslims would include, amongst others: a) Article 153 (9) says that business or trade cannot be solely reserved only for the Malays, b) Article 3 (1) says that the official religion of the federation is Islam BUT other religions are also allowed to be practiced in peace and harmony in any part of the federation.
