KDN banned "illegal" Bersih but illegal Anak Mamak can continue

The home affairs ministry (KDN) had recently issued a ban on Bersih, an acronym for Gabungan Pilihanraya Bersih dan Adil citing that the "organization" is not registered and therefore it is illegal.

We doubt the actions made by the ministry was even in accordance to the Societies Act. KDN had in fact failed to understand what was the movement of Bersih and who were those behind the initiation of Bersih.

Bersih is not an organization at all. Bersih is actually a loose Forum consist of various civil societies and NGOs like Amnesty International Malaysia, Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram), Malaysian Bar Council, Aliran Kesedaran Negara (Aliran), Gerakan Mansuh ISA (GMI), Malaysian Human Rights (Hakam), Jaringan Rakyat Tertindas (Jerit), Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH), Community Action Network, Malaysian Youth & Students Democratic Movement (DEMA), women rights groups and other human rights groups, all registered under the Societies Act or any other Acts, as legally bound organizations participated by our people.

Again, Bersih is not an organization, it does not have a group of office-bearers appointed nor elected to govern the "body" itself. And it does not held annual general meetings every year.

The meetings held on Bersih was jointly organized by NGOs like Amnesty International Malaysia, Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram), Malaysian Bar Council, Aliran Kesedaran Negara (Aliran), Gerakan Mansuh ISA (GMI), Malaysian Human Rights (Hakam), Jaringan Rakyat Tertindas (Jerit), Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH), Community Action Network, Malaysian Youth & Students Democratic Movement (DEMA) and so on in order to initiate their subject called Bersih.

Bersih is not an organization itself, but a mere subject or word of campaign being initiated by these groups of NGOs all came in proper, established and registered under the Societies Act or any other Act which permit these groups to functioned as a registered entities.

Therefore, what KDN has been doing was issuing the ban without even analyzing the true and actual purpose of Bersih. The objective of Bersih is to urge the federal government and election commission to come up with efforts to improve the standards and procedures for the general elections like the request for 21 days of campaigning, using of permanent ink for voting, abolishing postal votes, free and fair access to medias during campaign, reform public institutions, eradicate corruptions, stop dirty politicking, and many more.

Did you all see any of these objectives linking to the attempt to revive Communism? There is none at all. The purpose of all these imaginative charges against Bersih by Umno, KDN and the police were to confuse the people, particularly the Malay community into thinking that Bersih was actually an attempt of revival on Communism, Chinese related and that the Malays are going to lose power and their rights are going to be eroded in this country.

And while issuing a ban on Bersih by declaring it an "illegal organization", KDN then mentioned that the other Malay rights groups, such as the Suara Anak-anak Malaysia and Suara Anak Mamak Pulau Pinang (led by a fierce and violent local Umno leader named Mohd Ghani Abd Jiman also known as the Coffin Man) where both are found to be unregistered, can go on with their activities as usual.

What is this? While KDN declared Bersih as illegal, but allowing other illegal and unregistered organizations to carry on without any sanctions. It is clearly a double standard. Is KDN so blind or are they merely closing an eye on these two illegal organization.

We all know that these Suara Anak-anak Malaysia and Suara Anak Mamak Pulau Pinang both led by a fierce and violent local Umno leader named Mohd Ghani Abd Jiman have been instilling hatred and racial divide, instituting violent acts and actions that threaten public order and safety and why on earth the KDN and police are letting them off just like that?

Never mind of all those questions, we all know that the two unregistered Suara Anak-anak Malaysia and Suara Anak Mamak Pulau Pinang were Umno-linked groups, that is why the authorities allow them to carry on.
