Lynas: Umno's plan to subdue our nation

We have been wondering what does Umno want with the construction of this radioactive-based plant in our country.

Despite all the protests from the people, the Umno-led government had decided against the safety of our people and proceeded with the construction of the Australian-based Lynas at the Gebeng Industrial Park in Pahang.

Yes, it provides job opportunities and get returns of investments but in a longer term who will actually suffer from the consequences should anything were to happen? Did this Umno government really think of all those consequences in the long run or are they merely expecting big bucks from the investment?

This means, the concept of "People First, Performance Now" advocated by the Umno prime minister Najib Razak is really a fake and it's a joke! This Umno government is not making money for the people but they are merely making money for their own.

Recently, we had a report that the Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) had instructed a processing plant to shut down its operation completely after four of the AELB inspectors were found to had been exposed to radioactive materials two weeks ago.

What? Only after two weeks, then only the public were informed on this incident? What about those plant employees who might also have been exposed, apart from those four AELB inspectors? Have they been send for proper treatment and medical attention? Is the company going to take responsibility and compensate the families of those affected employees, should anything happens to them? What are the government measures in addressing such situation?

Up to now, no concrete measures were being taken to contain the radioactive contamination there and the people living around there are worrying to the fact that their livelihood may be affected.

And now, the Umno government is inviting yet another company of this kind to enter our country like nobody's business to build a plant to process disposals of dangerous wastes, just because money is on top of their agenda and not our people.

Can the Umno government and the Australian-based company Lynas Corp Ltd both give a hundred percent guarantee and assurance that such incident would not even happen in future?

Come on, humans and technical errors or failures are destined to happen and no one could predict when will it happen in the first place. In such situation, we strongly believe that our nation is not yet prepared to endure into such condition, should any incident were to take place, for instance leakage, exposures, explosions or whatsoever due to some circumstances. Who knows?

Even the most experience nuclear powered nation like Japan had found it too difficult to handle the damages and leakages of their nuclear powered plants after the devastating earthquake and tsunami recently.

First of all, why did the Umno government want to make our country a "rubbish dumpsite" for developed nations to enjoy themselves? Can you imagine how would the presidents and prime minister of these developed nation call us? Surely, they would say "Malaysia is our rubbish dumpsite"!

We supposed this is how the Umno government ministers became richer and wealthier while our people's livelihood and health deteriorates, so that our people will become too sick or too weak to even fight for their rights, equality, justice, democracy and to oppose this corrupted government.

EC should ask ROS to register Pakatan quickly

The Election Commission (EC) had recently advised the current opposition pact, Pakatan Rakyat comprising PAS, PKR and DAP, to register their coalition so that they could use their logo in the coming general election. EC deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said the coalition should be registered because the opposition parties were always seen violating regulations of the election campaign, especially on the use of their logo. Datuk Wan Ahmad seems to be overly ignorant and too forgetful on this issue. The EC deputy chairman should ask the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to quickly register the Pakatan instead of calling on Pakatan to register itself. Pakatan Rakyat had earlier send in their formal application to register itself as a coalition of political parties since November 2009 and ROS has yet to register the said entity till today after delaying and creating so many hassles for more than a year. USM fiasco a shame

I read and heard with irritation and felt disgusted with the fiasco committed by the apex status university called Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) which caused untold anguish to the affected students and their parents. If this happened in Japan, the Vice-Chancellor would have done the honourable thing - take full responsibilty and leave, but here in Malaysia, as expected, the blame is shifted here and there, trying to make someone a scapegoat. By the way, would there be any racist or sabotage elements involved? Those who are responsible for this fiasco should be sacked or expelled immediately.

Federal Constitution that Safeguards the Legitimate Rights and Interest of All Malaysians

The provisions of the Federal Constitution are very clear. It confirmed the position of the Malay Rulers, Islam as an official religion of the federation and special position of the Malays and the natives in Sabah and Sarawak whilst recalling that those provisions balance those special positions with safeguards to protect the legitimate rights and interests of the other communities in Malaysia which also includes their right to profess and practice their religions freely without being fear of any threats or being harmed by anybody. The legitimate interests of the non-Malays and non-Muslims would include, amongst others: a) Article 153 (9) says that business or trade cannot be solely reserved only for the Malays, b) Article 3 (1) says that the official religion of the federation is Islam BUT other religions are also allowed to be practiced in peace and harmony in any part of the federation.
