Feeling contempt for them
By Lim Mun FahA democratic society allows the coexistence of different political views and ideas. The principle of seeking a common ground while reserving differences has always been the most precious spirit in a multi-racial society.
We might not agree with the political views and ideas of others but we must respect them and let others legally and rationally express their views.
Of course, the best way to get along well is through communication. Mutual understanding, the principle of seeking a common ground while reserving differences and consensuses could be achieved through communication.
Also, hatred and contradictions could be eliminated only through communication. The country and society would become more peaceful and rational before winning the people's gratitude and respect.
The theory is simple but the implementation is always rather difficult. There are many angry people in the society with some have gone too far and turned unreasonable.
It is understandable to point out injustice but unreasonableness is the source of chaos.
Some people, who are narrow-minded, biased and extreme, would say or do something that would not be done by normal people.
Threats, intimidation, incitement, provocation and so on are their usual means.
Creating white terrors and distributing dirty messages are their characteristics. There is always a disgusting political motive behind all their words and deeds.
Therefore, to achieve their purposes, they deliberately create unrest and even conflicts without caring about the interests of the country and society.
If we remain silent and let them continue making troubles and challenging the bottom line of extreme remarks, their purposes would be achieved someday. If so, it would be a sorrow ending.
However, we must never overreact to avoid falling into the quagmire of irrational confrontation. The more they are incomprehensible, the more we have to be reasonable. The more they are provocative, the more we have to remain calm. The more they are arrogant, the more we have to humbly reflect ourselves. The more they are trying to make alarming stories, the more we have to feel contempt for them.
From another point of view, these people are acting so wildly and unscrupulously not because they are righteous. Instead, it is because they are diffident and have been trapped in a dead end.
We must always stay alert as extreme mindset still has a market. Extremists might find an opportunity to manipulate racial contradictions and spread hatred across our society. Since the solidarity of our society has been severely challenged, extremist might make it divide, split and rapidly sink!
