2009 betrayal and now 2020 betrayal, what now? Way forward.
In 2009, the betrayal of three Pakatan Rakyat state assemblymen has led to the downfall of the Perak state government in the Umno-inspired coup d’etat at that time led by the then deputy premier Najib Razak.
This year round, also took place in February, the betrayal of Bersatu and 11 PKR members of parliament has led to the downfall of the Pakatan Harapan federal government after about 22 months in Putrajaya. Worst of all, the betrayal at the federal level has also led to the fall of the Johor, Melaka and Perak Pakatan Harapan state government with Umno and PAS taking charge of all these coup d’etats while Bersatu was in conspiracy.
The reason for all these betrayals are very clear. Better known as traitors or “pengkhianat” for their betrayals because they fought the elections under the Pakatan Harapan banner, reasoning their defections is to save the “Malay heartland” from being overwhelmingly taken over by the “Chinese leaders” and to ensure "Islam is well-secured" under Umno and PAS’ hands.
Core leaders of the Pakatan Harapan component parties, PKR, DAP and Amanah are still in a state of shock and were unclear what to counter next. Their only plans are to come up with sufficient numbers to prepare for the 18 May 2020 no-confidence vote against the so-called new “Perikatan Nasional” coalition government which by now consist of Umno, PAS, Bersatu, MCA, MIC, GPS and PBS.
Two scenarios to be prepared in the next parliamentary session. What if the no-confidence vote got it through, but the king did not want to consent the change of government? What if the king did not want to call for snap elections reasoning that the coronavirus will spread to the population? What if the king asks the prime minister who lost the no-confidence vote to continue his reign as a minority government? Lastly, what if Pakatan Harapan lost the no-confidence motion against the prime minister?
Does Pakatan Harapan need to continue on the no-confidence motion against the prime minister come next parliamentary session or during the same sitting session?
Can Pakatan Harapan leaders observe the current situation? The coronavirus is spreading with more Malaysians are getting infected with this recently. The economy of the nation has not been doing well since 2018 due to the unstable oil prices and the most recent collapse in the share market due to our nation’s political crisis., worst of all, our nation’s currency value Ringgit is now back to its worst position with USD1.00 = RM4.244 as of today’s early morning trade. Inflation is getting very high, businesses are not doing well, both due to the inflation and the virus. The palm oil isn’t performing well in the market as well.
So what go does it makes for Pakatan Harapan to re-take the government seat in Putrajaya later on this May 2020? Will it be good if Pakatan Harapan is condemned continuously while in the Putrajaya seat and eventually become unpopular in the end of their first term? Yes, the recession is here now, but in politics, people had always wanted the government of the day to address the well-being of the population, how to put up ways to resolve problems and address the social economic problems of the nation in order to increase the income of our people.
So, what we are suggesting here is, we are not asking Pakatan Harapan to give it up. Yes, you can come up with the first attempt to unseat the so-called “Perikatan Nasional” loose coalition government come 18 May 2020. Win or lose, we are certain that the king would not allow another change of government nor permitting a snap election due to the current circumstances, be it environmental, political, health or something personal.
The most crucial thing Pakatan Harapan leaders now need to focus on is how are they going to address the betrayal and defections in the future? The selection of their candidates to contest in the GE15 is very important in order to ensure there would not be another round of a government fall due to such cases.
Furthermore, we also observed that component parties of Pakatan Harapan has been very lenient and loose in their membership control and filtering. Yes, we know, Pakatan Harapan leaders strongly believe in democracy and freedom, therefore anyone who wants to join them are most welcomed with open hands even if they are defectors from the other side of the political divide.

Yes, we know, Pakatan Harapan leaders strongly believe in democracy and freedom, therefore anyone who wants to join them are most welcomed with open hands even if they are defectors from the other side of the political divide.
In this case, Pakatan Harapan must strengthen their political security against any of such threats that might jeopardise their efforts in governance come next general election and should they claim victory again. Pakatan Harapan leaders must realise the fact that it was the people who voted for them to be the new government in 10 May 2018 over the corrupt and kleptocrat BN reign of 61 years.
If these MPs or state assemblymen who are elected under the Harapan banner and again they defected, the people will be felt betrayed because their choice of party has been turned over by defections over to the other party which they had eventually voted out. Like now, the people is faced with the betrayal of democracy and votes because the political security in Pakatan Harapan is weak and unable to filter their candidates in-depth.
And if such betrayal happens continuously, do you think the people, especially the younger and newer generation will ever come out to cast their votes come next and subsequent general elections? They may or will not cast their vote at all in the future because they believe somehow the candidates they voted for will eventually betray them.
Second, it is time for Pakatan Harapan to re-group what has been left, be it Amanah, PKR or DAP, it is time to re-group and come out from your state of shock. Seek all your MPs who are former ministers and former deputy ministers to establish a Shadow Cabinet as soon as possible according to the current composition of the government ministries. Provide the most and best check and balance to show your effectiveness in government businesses, to counter this backdoor government with your alternative public policy and proposals. If you have outstanding projects or all the implementations undertook by you in your previous tenure, you as in the Shadow Cabinet now should follow-up for those crucial projects and implementations to ensure they are put to work now instead of having it onhold by the so-called “Perikatan Nasional” government.
Furthermore, at the state level too, your former Exco members also need to re-group to establish the Shadow Excos in order to provide the check and balance roles similar to that of the federal level. To show your ability and to demonstrate your abilities continuously, there is no time to waste by politicking on and on. Being back to the opposition bench, you have your roles to play too, and you are not giving up completely by Shadowing the backdoor state governments and picking up the pieces where you had left before that. That is the way.
By appointing your core leaders to be members of the Shadow Cabinet and Shadow Excos to provide checks and balance on the sitting federal and state governments, Pakatan Harapan will be able to identify leaders who are capable in preparing themselves for governance in the near future, by not always talking about politics but emphasize more on governance and administrative issues, public policies and scrutinising projects and implementations under their portfolios.
Then, other than that, Pakatan Harapan also need to come up with a set of new generation of leaders to take over as many of its leaders now are already aged and it is time to allow younger and newer generations to charge. Train and guide them, put them to the top, let them speak their words, listen to their ideas, dreams and aspirations and do not limit their rise to the leadership.
So, to all Pakatan Harapan leaders, these are strategies you ought to take up. Continuous politics will cause the entire nation and people to become fed-up with the circumstances. Allow us to remind you again of the importance of Political Security which we had mentioned earlier. It is not about going against democracy or freedom here, it is about ensuring Pakatan Harapan stays relevant and secured for the betterment of our nation and the people. If you coalition is insure, will the people ever support or vote for you in future for instance, if defections and betrayals continues?
Think about it!
