Clowns In The MCA's No-Position Directive
When MCA national organising secretary Tee Siew Khiong decided to abide by the the Sultan's "titah perintah" and accepted the state executive councillor's position in Johor, MCA president Chua Soi Lek then let known to everyone that Tee has gone against the resolution made in the MCA annual general assembly affirming that the party should not accept any government or government-related position if the party performs badly in the general elections.
As the result of Tee's obedience to the Sultan, he has to resign from all his party positions at the national, state, divisional and branch levels. In the recent MCA central committee meeting, it has also decided that Tee's party membership would be suspended for three years. Tee then responded that the decision made by the party leadership was a kind of double-standard.
Later, the news of MCA vice-president Ng Yen Yen (who is also the former tourism minister in the previous cabinet) had accepted the appointment as the chairman of the Malaysian Tourism Promotions Board (MTPB), a government position within the Tourism and Culture Ministry, she was then being excluded from the MCA's resolution rejecting all government positions, reasoning that her appointment to the said post was recommended by the minister of tourism and culture who is from Umno. The MCA president later affirmed that Ng can accept the position because the appointment was not done by the party, thus did not defy the party's resolution.
What is the actual and real differences between the appointments of both Tee Siew Khiong (as the Johor state executive councillor) and Ng Yen Yen (MTPB chairman) here? Both Chua and Ng has reason that the later's appointment to the MTPB was not made by MCA. Then, what about Tee? His appointment was also not made by MCA. Tee was in fact recommended by the Johor menteri besar and appointed on the "titah perintah" from the Sultan.
It is clearly a double standard as what Tee has mentioned earlier over the party leadership's decision to suspend his party membership for three years. And, to be certain, these MCA leaders has been making a fool of themselves over such matter. What made worst was MCA should not have made such stupid resolution in their previous annual general assembly calling for the party not to accept any government position if it did not perform well in the just concluded general elections.
These party leaders, when did not get to hold any government positions could not get use to it. They could feel the pain of losing the other part of their income or salaries. Some party leaders had even quietly regretted the move undertaken by the party, and few days ago another MCA vice-president and Selangor state chairman Donald Lim has came out to revolt the decision and he even tried to obtain signatures from the party central delegates to call for an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to revoke the previous resolution to reject all government positions.
Well, what we could see here? The party leaders not only could not abide by their party's resolution, but it also shows these leaders are not committed in their party stand as well, being overly greedy for government positions. If they couldn't stand without having government positions in their hands, why make such resolutions in the first place?
We knew that too! MCA has intended to threaten the entire Chinese community prior to the last general elections. MCA, in doing such, was hoping the Chinese community would be worry sick of no Chinese representatives in the government after the general elections. However, the Chinese community decided not to bow to MCA's threat and decided to vote majority of the party's candidates out.
What then? The MCA leaders did not expect such (lost badly) to happened, as they have been having an impression that the Chinese community would bow to their pressure of the consequences (the party resolution not to accept any government positions). In the end, these MCA leaders are stuck and froze by their own party decisions.
Trying to revolt against the resolution or revoke the resolution through an EGM or even making some twist of their political talk in public would not do any good for MCA and their leaders. Instead, it would reflect a far more worst picture on the party and its leaders for not standing firm by their decisions as well as their greed and hunger for power.
If such situation or political play continues within the party and in the public, it would definitely go into the drain with zero marks in the next general elections. Just wait and see.
