What right has MACC to arrest Ronnie Liu’s aide?

A special assistant to Selangor state executive councillor Ronnie Liu has been detained by the MACC today for misappropriation of funds allocated to the Selangor Exco's constituency.

According to Liu, he was outraged by the arrest, said that MACC had earlier informed him that his special assistant Wong Chuan How was only to be questioned as a witness and not suspect.

However, when Wong was questioned this morning at his Sungai Pelek Service centre, the MACC officers instead informed him that he is a suspect and had him detained and brought over to the Selangor MACC headquarters.

So, what is MACC trying to play about? Can MACC show any evidence or warrant of arrest first before detaining anyone? Why did the MACC cheated and lied Liu and Wong in the first place saying that Wong was merely a witness to their "case"? Is there any provision in the MACC by-laws stating that the MACC investigators or officers can cheat any person to lure him into the MACC office and then detain him or her?

Now talking about misappropriation of funds allocated to Exco members and state assemblymen, we could clearly see that these Pakatan Exco members and state assemblymen are inexperience in doing so, since this only their very first full year in governance. Going into these curves and holes requires a lot of expertise and experience to do so and this is what Pakatan Exco members and state assemblymen are incapable of doing.

The real experts and masterminds of misappropriating constituency funds are the BN members of parliament, senators and state assemblymen who were at helm for more than 50 years. These BN "Yang Berhormats" especially those from Umno, MCA, MIC, Gerakan and PPP are the ones who are well-versed in utilising constituency funds allocated to them for more than 50 years.

Last time, when there are complaints of misappropriation of these public funds allocated to the BN members of parliament, senators and state assemblymen by the opposition party leaders and the public to the then ACA (Anti Corruption Agency), no action was taken at all because those so-call corruption busters did not even care to open an investigation to do so. The then ACA did not act on the BN men as it is the federal government.

Apart from that, the then ACA listened only to the prime minister and do not act on professional jurisdiction and now MACC is the same old body with a mere slight re-branding, doing their same old routine and reporting to the prime minister. No changes at all. It is still a political tool of both Umno and BN to persecute anyone who oppose them.

For Pakatan, it is another wake up call. The coalition of PKR, DAP and PAS must stand firm and come out with a best solution to counter the overly powerful BN institutions who are going all out to topple the Pakatan rule states. Pakatan must now seriously consider a move to establish a reliable security force of their own in order to ensure the stability and security of their states and to prevent further subversive elements from further undermining their state governments and our people as well.
