MACC or the other way round

What is MACC really stands for after all these mess they had shown? Should we call it the Malaysian Advancing Corruptions and Crime? A lot of people may or will agree with this suggestion.

First, they are always being what they are originally are, as it was called ACA previously, practicing selective persecutions against opposition members of parliament and state assemblymen, or even the opposition rule states.

Whatever, ACA or MACC it is the same. It is only a mere window dressing and some cosmetic change on its entity to bring about re-branding on the tarnished enforcement agency.

Whenever there are reports lodged by concerned citizens or non-governmental organizations (NGO) against BN and Umno leaders for alleged power abuses and corrupt practice, nothing has been done to investigate these criminals and bring them to justice accordingly.

Everything that was reported by our people were just swept under the carpet and then they come out with a press release saying that these guys or culprits has been investigated and no evidence has been found that they had committed such acts to acquire the wealth and money in a wrong way.

Now, it is our turn to ask the MACC. Can you show us how did you probe these guys and how true that you had already investigate these corruption institutions and the people in it? Where is your accountability and transparency? Whom do you report to and take orders from?

As from the ACA until the “inception” to MACC, the anti-graft body was never being made answerable to the parliament or any parliamentary committees. This is because the commission has been under the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister’s Department.

So, what would be the suggestion to say that the MACC really acted within its professionalism and it is neutral in its duties and performance when the Prime Minister has his powers and hand on the organization?

All of us had seen it where the MACC had never or dare not go into the top echelons of the Umno leadership to root out all those corrupted officials for fear of offending the ruling party’s officials who happened to be ministers in the federal government concurrently.

But whenever there are slight indications or just a rumor that the opposition party leaders are in for this or that without any clear base or facts, the MACC are quick and efficient in carrying out their investigate against them, sometimes in a manner of already implicating them to the corruptions and crimes that these opposition party members or leaders had never commit so far or in any way.

Can MACC answer to our people, how did all those Umno leaders gain their wealth and in what way they had acquired their riches, properties, luxuries and so on. Can MACC explain why did the Zakaria Mat Deros Palace and the Khir Toyo Mansion exist in such an unusual way?

The land scams in Penang which caused the Penang state government billions of Ringgit in losses and now the Kampung Buah Pala crisis. The illegal loggings in Pahang and Sarawak, the controversial PKFZ scandal, the recent losses suffered by the Pahang state government in billions of Ringgit compensations, the Umno-linked ecstasy pill trade in the Thai-Perak border, the massive entry of illegal immigrants into Sabah, the improper eviction of natives from their lands and longhouses in Sarawak, the losses suffered in Maika Holdings, the MIED missing funds and what more to come?

All these scams and crisis which caused billions of Ringgit of our taxpayers’ money, what MACC would have to say on these? All these concerns the wealth of our nation which had been stolen and played around by rich and powerful people linked either directly or indirectly to Umno and its BN component parties. And yet the MACC is just sitting right there doing nothing to resolve the entire situation. As at to-date, MACC had demonstrate none of these two show the entire nation that they are effectively performing and discharging their responsibilities to combat graft and power abuses.

What is the use of going after only all those small fries whereas the big fish and kingmakers of the corrupt industry are left untouched simply because they are closely linked to Umno and the BN power house?

Secondly, on the MACC method of interrogation of suspects or witnesses of their selective persecution or whatever kinds of persecution they would have! For witnesses, especially, why would MACC treat them like suspects too, like questioning and quizzing them overnight for hours without rest and opportunities for relief?

The special assistant to a Selangor state executive councilor, Teo Beng Hock was grilled by the MACC from 5.00pm to 3.45am the next morning. Then he was suddenly found murdered in the later of the same day. When Beng Hock’s death was discovered, the MACC officials are quick to call for a press conference to wash their hand clean saying that he was released and he choose to put up a night at the MACC office.

Can you believe all the reasons given by those MACC officials in such a hurry manner? Apart from that the MACC said he was a mere witness to the case. Or was it changed at the last minute from a suspect to witness status? If he is really a witness, why on earth MACC wanted to grill him like a suspect from 5.00pm to 3.45am the next day? Why wasn’t Beng Hock allowed a legal counsel or lawyer to accompany him during the entire period to ensure nothing goes wrong? If there is a person accompanying him, he would have being alive today to tell us what were the interrogation was on that day.

According to former Selangor Umno menteri besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo, during his meeting with the MACC officials on the acquisition of a landed property, his session with the officials were recorded and there is a CCTV observing the whole process.

Therefore, can the MACC produce the recordings and the CCTV that had captured the entire session between their officials and Beng Hock to ascertain he is really being treated as a witness as claimed and no threats were issued against him during the interrogation. Until now, the MACC failed to do so and this raise doubts on their assurance that nobody will be treated in a harsh or violent manner during questioning or grilling.

Furthermore, prior to Beng Hock’s death, a municipal councillor Tan Boon Hwa was also grilled and questioned for hours pertaining to the similar case which Beng Hock was put into. According to Boon Hwa, he was repeatedly threatened by the MACC officers during the entire session forcing him to tell the “truth” or else…!

So, what was Boon Hwa’s status during the questioning? Was he a suspect or witness? If he was a witness (just in case MACC wanted to wash its hands again), why was he threatened like a common suspect or criminal? Again, wasn’t a witness supposed to be accorded with a proper treatment in a humane manner? If MACC were to deny any harsh treatment on Boon Hwa, can they reveal the recorded session of the entire situation to the public?

Has the MACC really being upgraded from an agency status to that of a commission? Or was it a mere re-branding as mentioned earlier? If the federal government really wants to show the people that MACC had really changed, then put the answerable to the parliament and not the Prime Minister’s Department.

MACC must be made answerable to the people and turned into an organization where it performed in a transparent manner. MACC exist today just because we as taxpayers took out one large part of our incomes to pay the LHDN the income taxes which in turn channeled to various government machineries as salaries and benefits.

If you are serious fighting graft as claimed, then proof it out to the people. For your info, all government employees including that of MACC are the servants of the people and not subservient to only Umno or Barisan Nasional.

Right now, we as Malaysians are all disappointed and feel ashamed of what had happened today and the future to come should the situation remain unchanged.

Even if Umno or BN were to say MACC was modeled after the Hong Kong and Australian ICAC, we are certain that these two countries would quickly distance themselves from the claim.

MACC is a real disgrace to our people and the entire nation.
