Be cautious when calling the numbers and the public sector must remain professional in their roles
Today, we received with cautious the news this afternoon from the parliamentary leader of the opposition who is also the Parti Keadilan Rakyat president, Anwar Ibrahim giving his affirmative that he already has the numbers to form the next government.
But when asked by the press on who is who in his numbers or which parties had agreed to side with him, his only answer was, wait and see, wait for the parties to let known of their support themselves and later on informed us that he will be seeking an audience with the King to present his justification to propose a new administration in the next couple of weeks.
Immediately after that, the King's office announced that they had received the application for audience from Anwar but the audience has been postponed due to the King's unwell condition which had brought him to seek treatment at the Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) in the early of this week.
We were wondering what was the actual fact that leads to this announcement. Was this effort is to help garner support for Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) and Pakatan Harapan allies led by the state's chief minister Shafie Apdal in the upcoming state election which is due to be held in this coming weekend after a two-week long ongoing campaigning? Some had saw possibilities, some said there are other reason for Anwar to do so.
So, because of the King medical treatment and the Anwar's audience with His Majesty has been postponed awaiting the Royal's recovery, things might or might not take a U-turn politically. During this "waiting period" the guessing game is on. First what if Warisan (Plus) wins the Sabah state election scheduled this Saturday? What if Perikatan Nasional (Plus) wins instead? It might take a turn if the either party wins the state election with a much bigger majority.
Well, many of us would generally see that it is best to wait for the outcome of the Sabah state election before any political parties decides to switch support or not. And if this is the case, including those MPs who most of them are still keeping very quiet about this, then let us all wait for the election results come this Saturday night.
In this situation, we urge all parties to be cautious on their numbers that both side cliamed to be holding right now. Do not be over confident, do not underestimate the power of the darker realm which is currently running the administration today. While time is still sufficient, they may come up with many kinds of "counter offers", "money printing" will be intensify in order to meet various demands and price quotes. We all must remember here, the power of money politics under the current administration is still on and very much lively.
In the meantime, in facing such political uncertainties, we are seeking the civil service, police and the armed forces to stay out of this political situation and not taking sides. The civil service, police and armed forces must be professional in their duties as public servants discharging their daily roles and responsibilities to the people and the entire nation.
You all can make your choice and cast your votes, but stay out of the political by not making your preferred sides, or else the people will continue to view the public service with distrusts.
