Umno should look at its own bad deeds first
On 6 November, Penang state opposition leader and state Umno secretary Datuk Azhar Ibrahim had alleged that the Penang state government had boycotted events and functions organised by the federal government departments and agencies.
Apart from that, Azhar also claimed that officers from the state government were inactive at resolving issues arised and the state machineries were hardly to be seen. The statements made by Azhar shows that he is politically inmatured and he had put his words without checking the facts first.
In fact what had Azhar claimed that the state government had allegedly "boycotted" federal events had directly pointed back to himself and his party, Umno. We hope he had realised it by now and quickly apologise to the state as soon as possible.
In the first place, who boycotted who first? The people knows that very clearly. When the Pakatan Rakyat took over several states after the 8 March 2008 general elections, it was the Umno-led federal government who urged their officials to boycott events and functions organised by Pakatan state governments.
Remember, the Umno-led education ministry instructed all school teachers not to attend any functions undertaken by the Pakatan state government and not to invite the Pakatan state executive councillors or state assemblymen to grace their schools' events and functions as well.
And remember again, a state level youth event which took place in Penang recently, the federal youth and sports ministry bypassed the Penang state executive councillor incharge of youth and sports by not inviting her to attend the event which was related to her portfolio, but instead only invited the officials from the state development office which had acted as a "de facto state government of Penang" to attend the event "on behalf" of the state.
Therefore, we want to ask the Umno-led federal government what are they actually trying to play at? Encouraging disunity amongst our people by creating functions which are duplicating the states' administrative machineries and confusing the people? These measures carried out by Umno are clearly sabotaging the governing positions of the Pakatan-led states.
Why want to create the so-called state development offices to rival the elected state governments (in Pakatan-led states)? Why are they duplicating the local administrative structures by creating the federal JKKK to rival the state-level JKKK? Federal penghulus to rival the state appointed penghulus? Are they going to tell us that soon, there will be federal municipal councils to rival the state-level municipal councils in Pakatan-led states?
All these characteristics undertaken by Umno are clearly a blatant wastage of public funds and their motive are nothing but only for their own political ends. They simply created all these rival positions and offices in order to keep feeding their party members and cronies with contracts and incomes. In the end, it is the people who are still suffering.
So, we hope Azhar will look at himself and his own party first before he lashes out at others with no reasons and facts.
