Eliminate Racism, not just ignore them
In the prime minister’s speech at the recently concluded Gerakan national delegates conference which he officiated, Datuk Najib Razak told the Gerakan delegates and the people that racist comments from one or two Umno leaders should be ignored, Umno is not a racist party and don’t listen to one or two leaders’ talk.
Does Najib think that by ignoring these “one or two racist Umno leaders” would be enough? Or why does he think that by ignoring these racist would be effective to curb them out of political influence? And are there really only “one or two” racist Umno leaders as he claimed? Since from the beginning of Umno’s inception till today, we had seen more than just “one or two” racist Umno leader wielding and yielding racist and supremacist jargons as well as threatened the lives of other communities. So, we want to correct Najib’s error, it is actually between “one to two thousand”. And we hope he does acknowledge his error.
By just ignoring these racist Umno leaders aren’t enough to curb them out of the political scene. If Najib thinks that by just ignoring them, we are telling him again, he is again wrong. If you are just ignoring them, this mean you are protecting them from the relevant laws to take effect.
In fact, these racist Umno leaders must be hauled up and charged in the court of law for inciting hatred, violence, disunity, attempted murder, terrorism or even threat to the national security. But to-date, none of these racist Umno leaders are brought in and charge in the court for all those hate messages that they had delivered. They were merely silenced and put into cold storage for few years and perhaps after that, when all of us had forgotten about their misdeeds, they will make a comeback in a sudden without anyone of us knowing it.
Is this what Umno is planning all this while? Yes, we supposed this is what they are doing. And wait till some of these racist party leaders re-emerge one day and it will be then too late for us to remember their diehard racism when we wrongly cast our votes to support them. Don’t say it is not possible, because our people and voters do make mistakes and made the wrong choice in the past general elections. The voters themselves had admitted their mistakes which resulted to have undergone the sufferings and the arrogance of these warlord leaders for five years before another general election can come over. By then, a lot of damages had been done and it is too late for any redemption to be made.
And this is a clear fact on how Umno managed to retain its power for decades and even became more powerful and with this powers in hand, these racist Umno leaders became even more arrogant, threatening and behaved, acted above the laws. It looks like they are all immune from any court of law should they loud their racist drums and jargons by threatening the other Malaysian communities.
Do you all remember the proposed Race Relations Act which was initially mentioned to curb these racist and political terrorism? Yes, this proposal just died off a natural death like that, because majority of the Umno leaders are opposed to such law which they regard may undermine their future racist agendas. No wonder the Race Relations Act did not materialized. The reason is Umno.
The other matter is, do you think Umno is not a racist party as the party president claimed? Do we all believe in such a statement made by a leader who himself was once part of the radical racist mainstream who carried the torch of threat to other communities?
We could still remember during his early years in a powerful position, he uttered bluntly to the members of the press “what I said in my speech was only meant for Malay medias, others (non-Malay, he meaned) need not report it”. So, can we agree that Umno is not a racist party?
As long as a party is ultimately for only one race, it is a racist party. Umno only champion the rights, supremacist and Malay unity, MCA for Chinese unity and MIC for Indian unity, while other multi-racial based parties like Gerakan and PPP are stuck with their ideas for a Malaysian reality in their pockets because of the continuous suppression from those senior BN coalition partners. So, can the Malaysian reality work from within the BN mainframe which had long being dominated in a race-based manner? Can 1Malaysia work? We doubt that.
If 1Malaysia works, the policies of racial quotas in all public and private sectors as well as governing policies would had long gone, but until now, these policies are still here affecting our daily lives and our generations to come as well. Where are the changes loud in the 1Malaysia concept, what are the results, where are the evidence of the success of this concept and so on? There are still a lots of questions left unanswered in the 1Malaysia implementation. To-date, from what we saw 1Malaysia was merely a new political ideology mooted by a new prime minister and no difference from the previous premiers.
The cause of racism is expected to continue to be around in our political scene as long as the ruling BN coalition continued with its race-based political mainstream in thick. The cause of racial hatred is also expected to continue as long as there is no rule or law to curb such irresponsible acts and because the existing authorities and security organs in this country are not apolitical and do not act accordingly as well as professionally to use the already available laws to suppress such negative elements.
A tough and effective law is therefore needed to eliminate racism from our country and make Malaysia a better place to live for all our Malaysians. To all our fellow Malaysian, let us all think and decide for our future generations as a Malaysian.
Malaysian First, Eliminate Racism!
