Transparency International head resigns from MCA
Transparency International Malaysia (TIM) president Datuk Paul Low has decided to leave MCA to ensure his new role in the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal is impartial.
He explained that he had "forgotten" about his membership but "as it is highlighted out that my membership in MCA may be perceived as an impairment to my impartiality I will now initiate my resignation and thus revoking my membership of MCA."
Low was appointed to head the ad-hoc committee on corporate governance, tasked with making suggestions to ensure good governance and best practices to avoid further leakages in what has gone from an RM2 billion project to a forecasted RM12.5 billion controversy.
Lim Kit Siang, the DAP parliamentary leader, had mocked the anti-corruption non-governmental organisation's chief for accepting a role which could lead to a potential conflict of interest.
He had pointed out that Low is an MCA life member and former chairman of an MCA think tank.
In a media statement, Low said that as the Ipoh Timur MP had "expressed doubts as to Datuk Low’s ability to carry out his responsibility in an impartial manner," he would "initiate my resignation and thus revoking my membership of MCA."
"Subsequently, I have no involvement in any political activities of MCA and I have long forgotten that my membership still exists," he added - Agencies.
