Dewan Rakyat speaker said PKFZ scandal not important
The Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin yesterday rejected a motion tabled by DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang to discuss the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal reasoning that the PKFZ scandal is not one of the important issue needed to be discussed in the parliament and furthermore the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) is investigation it.
We view the statement made by Tan Sri Pandikar Amin as irresponsible and he is completely out of his mind. According to the Dewan Rakyat speaker, the PKFZ scandal is not that important and need not to be discussed in the parliament. What does he mean by not important? Is he trying to say that the losses incurred from the PKFZ scandal is merely a few ringgit and cents that he could just take out from his pocket to replace it?
Come on, the PKFZ scandal is a national issue, a debacle that had continue to shame our nation to disgust. Millions of ringgit of public funds had gone down to the drain just like that. Every members of parliament had every right to bring this matter up to parliament for discussion as this is a matter of national interest and not only at Tan Sri Pandikar Amin’s personal interest.
Did the MACC Act 2009 have any provisions in its law stating that while any cases under its investigations, no one is allowed to discuss it formally or informally? Is there any provisions in the MACC Act 2009 stating that members of parliament are disallowed any rights to access the reports of any irregularities within the any government establishments until investigations are completed?
The parliament is a national institution that caters the voices and the interests of our people. Even the MACC Act 2009 is forwarded to the parliament to be approved as a law. So, what so big about MACC and is MACC is above the parliament and the law? By right MACC must report to the parliament on its findings and activities and not the Prime Minister’s Department.
The core person who should be made answerable to the parliament on the PKFZ scandal, transport minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat ran away on a seven day “official visit” just to avoid questions and inquiries which is to be made by our members of parliament. The MCA president had earlier promised to the public that he will go all out to ensure no one is being left out in this investigation and yet he ran like that to avoid scrutinizes from our members of parliament.
Datuk Ong not only cheated our people but the entire nation, by running away from his responsibilities and broken his promises to the people to resolve the scandal as soon as possible. Where is he now? Be brave to face the facts and not just hide yourself from us.
Come on Datuk Ong, if you dare not face our parliamentarians, how are you going to face the people then? Be a man and come out to clear up all this mess.
