Perak BN gov't scorches Pakatan policies

Malaysiakini recently reported that the Perak BN government is bent on destroying all people-friendly policies implemented during Pakatan’s 10-month rule. It seems like the BN rebel state government led by Umno is making its political revenge to be seen by the people and as a sign that they are serious of their revenge policies towards the previous Pakatan's new implementations. Even the conversion of 3,000 land titles has been fully cancelled and the one-coupon parking system scrapped as well. All these policies which are deemed to be people-friendly were all destroyed just because of Umno's revengeful attitude towards the Pakatan for defeating them in the last general elections. The people of Perak are victims of the BN-Umno political revenge and their ketuananhood. Can we let this political animals go on like that?

Transparency International head resigns from MCA

Transparency International Malaysia (TIM) president Datuk Paul Low has decided to leave MCA to ensure his new role in the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal is impartial. He explained that he had "forgotten" about his membership but "as it is highlighted out that my membership in MCA may be perceived as an impairment to my impartiality I will now initiate my resignation and thus revoking my membership of MCA." Low was appointed to head the ad-hoc committee on corporate governance, tasked with making suggestions to ensure good governance and best practices to avoid further leakages in what has gone from an RM2 billion project to a forecasted RM12.5 billion controversy. Lim Kit Siang, the DAP parliamentary leader, had mocked the anti-corruption non-governmental organisation's chief for accepting a role which could lead to a potential conflict of interest. He had pointed out that Low is an MCA life member and former chairman of an MCA think tank. In a media statem...

Malaysia blacklisted for human trafficking

Malaysiakini reports that the United States has put Malaysia back on the blacklist of countries trafficking in people after removing the country from the list last year. So, what is the Home Affairs Ministry under Hishammuddin Tun Hussein doing all these while ? We know what happened. The ministry is busy mobilising its security forces to curb democratic and political activities rather than putting them to fight the rising crimes in our nation. Just because the opposition coalition is gaining its influence and its popularity is on the rise, they used the security forces to curb their influences by arresting, harrassing, threatening and imprisonment. Even lighting a candle or wearing black t-shirt is an offence right now. Is democracy dying and the crime rate is going up right now ?

Dewan Rakyat speaker said PKFZ scandal not important

The Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin yesterday rejected a motion tabled by DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang to discuss the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal reasoning that the PKFZ scandal is not one of the important issue needed to be discussed in the parliament and furthermore the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) is investigation it. We view the statement made by Tan Sri Pandikar Amin as irresponsible and he is completely out of his mind. According to the Dewan Rakyat speaker, the PKFZ scandal is not that important and need not to be discussed in the parliament. What does he mean by not important? Is he trying to say that the losses incurred from the PKFZ scandal is merely a few ringgit and cents that he could just take out from his pocket to replace it? Come on, the PKFZ scandal is a national issue, a debacle that had continue to shame our nation to disgust. Millions of ringgit of public funds had gone down to the drain just like that. Every members of p...

USM must apologise formally to 4574 students

The chancellory and the senate of the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) must issue formal apologies in writting to all the 4574 students who were mistakenly informed that they had been given places in the university because of their corrupt on-line system. Each of every student affected by this crisis must be given a personal and written apology and a public apology alone is not enough. First you gave all these students so much hope and happiness to their parents, and then you let them all down in a very next few days. The USM fiasco had clearly disgraced the entire Penang state and the educational system. The 4574 students' welfare, who is going to compensate them? They had been cheated in such a cruel and disgusting manner. If the USM chancellory and the senate cannot make a formal and written apology and compensate them with places at other varsities, then all of them should resign from their respective positions.

Support for move to make English credit compulsory for SPM

The Education Ministry’s initiative to make a pass in English compulsory for students to obtain their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) has been enthusiastically supported by several quarters. The National Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) said the move must, however, be accompanied by good groundwork for policy efficacy. "It is a good move that will ensure a good future for students. However, positive action to create a good foundation is needed," said National PTA chairman Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Ali Hassan. "It is already a core subject and it is a knowledge-based, global language. So, the language must be mastered by the young." The ministry is now drafting a proposal while getting public feedback concerning the move to make a pass in English as a compulsory requirement to attain the SPM certificate. "We welcome the statement. But, there needs to be good preparation before policy change and this involves good ...

Kayveas, Murugiah yet to explain to ROS. Is ROS at fault too?

Both People’s Progressive Party (PPP) president Datuk M. Kayveas and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk T. Murugiah have yet to give full explanations to the Registrar of Societies so that it can conclude its investigation on the party’s status. It seems that the two PPP leaders are look into several channels to save their "party" as it has been found that both factions in dispute are at fault. First, the Kayveas faction had failed to submit their annual returns to the ROS for the past few year back. And if in accordance to the Societies Act, PPP would have been de-registered a long time ago. In this case, the ROS too is at fault as they did not follow up on this issue and go by the procedures until it was exposed by the other faction who is disputing the party leadership. We must also remember that Datuk Kayveas was also fined by the Bar Council under the Legal Professions act earlier for his professional misconduct. In accordance to the law, Kayveas sh...

Will Nizar be given a fair hearing?

Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin is expected to file an appeal soon at the court against the Appeals Court ruling that made Perak rebel leader Dr Zambry Abd Kadir the rightful menteri besar, thus overruling the previous judgment made by the Federal Court which declared Nizar as the legal menteri besar of Perak. The main concern here is will Nizar be given a fair and proper hearing for his appeal against the Appeals Court judgment? Why Appeals Court written judgment was delayed till today and Nizar has yet to obtain them? Do those judges who presided in the Appeals Court hearing the other day on 11 May know how to write their judgment? Are those judges seeking help from Datuk V.K.Lingam again to write the said judgment for them? Or supposedly an effort to sabotage Nizar’s appeal is ongoing? During the Perak constitutional crisis, we had seen the police and the security forces being tainted, the state constitution being thrown into the dustbin, the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) ...

Tegasnya pimpinan PAS perlu menolak perpaduan dengan Umno dan menjadikan 'PAS the only choice'. Istilah 'perpaduan' katanya hany...

SE Asia: Its resilience makes it a viable complement to China

Painful economic slowdowns are nothing new to Southeast Asia. The region went through its own gut-wrenching financial crisis more than a decade ago in what now seems like a dress rehearsal for today’s turmoil. Companies defaulted, banks collapsed, stock markets tanked, and economies shrank at double-digit rates as foreign investment slowed to a trickle. But Southeast Asia dutifully swallowed the bitter pill of austerity, devaluing currencies and working off debt while banks restructured and companies patched up balance sheets. Now Southeast Asia is getting whacked again, a victim of sins on the other side of the globe. Last autumn the region’s exports plunged as the US, and then China, slumped. Foreign investment, meanwhile, has plummeted as multinationals rein in spending. “It’s frustrating that we are in a crisis that is not of our own making,” says Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva. Chunks of toxic assets cleansed during the 1997 crisis. Yet this downturn is hardly a full-blown ...

Charge Utusan for sedition and shut the paper down

Ticking off the Utusan Malaysia and its writer for the racist article published in their newspaper recently insn't sufficient. And then after a little while they were praise for their "good job" done. What is this all about ? Is the BN-Umno sincere about promoting national unity ? If you are prove it ! Charge the writer under the Seditions Act and shut the newspaper down completely. If it is merely doing some talking, then it is completely waste of time and putting up cheap publicity. The writer of the article which is deemed racist and incite hatred should be immediately hauled up and charge in the court for an attempt to promote hatred and anger on other ethnics. This is a serious threat to the national security. But will BN-Umno view this in a same way ? We doubt it for sure. What exactly the intention of the Utusan writer in writting such an article ? Does he had a deep hatred onto us for realising the spirit of democracy and national unity on 8 March 2008 last year. ...

DPM's tick off at Utusan insincere

When ticking off Utusan Malaysia and its particular writer for the racist article that was published in their newspaper recently, deputy premier Muhyiddin Yassin said that he was not taking sides and added that Utusan had also done a "great job". It looks like Muhyiddin is being insincere in telling Utusan that they are a kind of wrong in promoting the racist article. He said that he did not take side but in fact with his later statement shows that he did sided with Utusan by mentioning that they had done a "great job" which means they were not actually "very wrong" on it. In this case, Utusan Malaysia will not take Muhyiddin's heed seriously and they will continue to be a racist publication just like their owner and shareholder, Umno. They will never change because they too resist change right from the beginning.

Collapsed stadium did not have certification

The recently collapsed Sultan Mizan Stadium in Kuala Terengganu did not have the Work Completion Certificate from Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) as required under the law and it already played host to several events and functions. In fact JKR did noticed and realised that something was amiss but why didn't they seal the whole stadium and just let it be opened to public. It seems that JKR did not carry out the subsequent procedures of sealing the stadium for further review and inspection but instead let it be opened to public for functions and events. Just imagine if the stadium roofs were to collapse when there is an event or function going on and many people would have lost their lives because of all these shortcomes. This shows that the elements of corruption does exist awarding the construction contract right down to the certification of the said project. One question to the Barisan Nasional, do you want people to die first before you could act on those who are responsible?

Still no decision from ROS on PPP imbroglio

Looks like the Registrar of Societies (ROS) had find it hard to make its decision on the factional tussle in the People's Progressive Party (PPP) where two of its leaders are claiming the party presidency now. Why so difficult? Is it because the technical mistakes in PPP is to obvious which would cause the party to be de-registered and Datuk M.Kayveas may be blacklisted from holding any positions in any registered entities? And due to this, the ROS could not decide as per the Societies Act just because PPP is under the Barisan Nasional (BN)? It is clear that ROS is dragging its decision up to now just because PPP is a BN component party. what if PPP is an opposition party then. It should have been de-registered long ago. ROS is not being professional enough in handling such issue. What if it involve Pakatan Rakyat (PR) component parties or any other political parties outside PR and BN? For sure, they will move in as fast as possible to "resolve" the matter.

USM fiasco a shame

I read and heard with irritation and felt disgusted with the fiasco committed by the apex status university called Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) which caused untold anguish to the affected students and their parents. If this happened in Japan, the Vice-Chancellor would have done the honourable thing - take full responsibilty and leave, but here in Malaysia, as expected, the blame is shifted here and there, trying to make someone a scapegoat. By the way, would there be any racist or sabotage elements involved? Those who are responsible for this fiasco should be sacked or expelled immediately.

USM’s blunder irks parents and students

An online blunder by apex-status Universiti Sains Malaysia in its first direct intake of undergraduates led to some 200 irate parents and applicants causing a ruckus here yesterday. The error resulted in 4,574 students being wrongly informed that they had obtained places at the university. Red-faced university officials apologised for their mistake when confronted by hollering parents and applicants, some sobbing. The university had on Friday mistakenly uploaded the names of 8,173 applicants who had met the minimum criteria, stating they were successful in their application although the list should only contain the names of 3,599 eligible students. The “successful” 8,173 were told to confirm their places with the university by 5pm yesterday. Applicants and parents starting arriving at the university at 9am yesterday to confirm their places but were told of the mistake. Tempers flared as parents, some of whom had travelled from other states for the registration, argued with registrar of...

BN component parties in crisis

In aftermath of the general elections last year several Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties had came down with severe problems, tussles and crisis which are affecting the credibility BN coalitionas a whole. Umno, the major and leading component party of the BN coalition is downed with intense bickering and infighting as well as factional disputes involving its leaders in Perlis, Kelantan and Terengganu tussling with each other to hold on to their respective positions. As the result, most of its state leaders were replaced by party national leaders who are not even from the states concerned, thus making these parachuted new state leaders difficult to understand the needs of the local Umno leaders and members. Perlis started its sword fighting when the then long-serving menteri besar was suddenly replaced by a politically unknown after the general elections. In Kelantan, factional tussles are clearly shown in public with not much success of calming the situation which is getting wors...
