IPCMC now or it will be none forever !
The shocking reveal on the police’s responsibilities of the two abductions has indeed renewed public calls to have the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) to be established as soon as possible in order to address the various cases and misdeeds which involved members of the force.
And yet until today, certain elements within the force are still against the IPCMC and this faction within the force had in fact taken numerous steps to ensure the IPCMC does not come into reality forever.
The fact that is, the establishment of the IPCMC does not signify anti-police measures, the setting-up of the IPCMC is not to take control over the police force not taking over their role in preserving our nation’s security. Furthermore, the new government does not intend to abolish the police force.
The proposal to establish the IPCMC is to assist the police force to improve their standards, integrity, transparency and accountability. It will provide various support and amenities for the police force to improve and to upgrade into a professional security force of the future.
So, why certain top brass in the faction of the force keep on opposing the IPCMC and instigated others to go against this proposal? Do they have some personal interests within the forces’ system or are they trying to hide unseen activities which are being undertaken by certain inner circles within the force? What are they actually afraid of in the IPCMC? Or are they afraid their personal interests within the force will be discovered in event the IPCMC comes into reality?
In this case, we would like to seek some answers from the current top brass of the force, where are your transparency and accountability in many of your measures, enforcement and implementations? Can you show us or prove to us all these?
Can the force answer to the public the numerous deaths in custody which had taken place, and the one major disappearance of two persons said to be undertaken by certain elements within the force in order “to protect certain political figures” out there?
Come on, the role and responsibilities of the police force is to preserve our nation’s security and to ensure our nation’s sovereignty is not being threatened by any external force. Therefore, our nation’s police should therefore function professionally in order for it to regain the trust and respect from the general public.
Yes, we do recognize the various contributions by the police force in ensuring our nation’s security is preserved and protected, but you must also recognize the fact that there are also certain elements within the force who are using the good name of the institution for their self-interests. Do you think it is fair to you and the rest of the people? These negative elements should be flushed out in order to enhance the reputation of the police force, and with the IPCMC in place, the functionality of the police force could become a professional security institution of the future, being respected by our people and seen as a reputable force of the peace.
If a certain faction within the force is going to oppose the IPCMC for their personal interests, is this government, particularly the home ministry going to allow this to go on forever? Is the government going to postpone and postpone the IPCMC’s establishment on and on until the next general elections?
The government should not allow the security of our nation to be compromised by certain faction within the force who wanted their personal interests to be preserved.
The home minister should be firm in his stand against any opposition within the force against the IPCMC in order to kick start this oversight body to better enhance the police into a reputable and respectable force.
This government should realize how the force was being misused by the previous ruling party to further their own interest, to protect their corrupt activities, cronies and used them to boast their political powers and this has to be stopped now before they are being misused again.
Either you put the IPCMC in place now, or there shall never be any in the future.
Preserve the reputation of the police force with better enhance management system, competency as a priority so accountability could be achieved in a sense that transparency will regain our people’s respect towards the force.
