BN is distracting us from the real issues

My article was earlier published in TheAntDaily.com on 21/12/2014

It is not too way off to say that we are living in a nation full of distraction. Here we are, facing off so many distraction, one after another, non-stop.

Perhaps it was meant to confuse all of us, to take us away from the real issues affecting our daily lives, those issues moving our nation towards bankruptcy and destruction, both socially and economically.

The real issues seriously affecting our nation are mismanagement, power abuse and corruption that are taking place in the both BN-led federal and state governments.

All these mismanagement, power abuse and corruption had cost billions of ringgit in public funds almost every year, very much celebrated as an anniversary by the ruling elites and their cronies after the release of the Auditor-General’s Report every year.

So, after the Auditor General Reports were released every year, what has been done then? Has the BN government initiated any tough and effective measures to curb all these negative elements that are causing public funds to be drained out like nobody’s business?

The many kinds of unexplained expenditures, outflow of funds, pay outs to non-existence contracts, remittance to even dead people and many more. The question is, why actions are not taken to get rid of all such crimes that are swallowing our nation’s coffers?

Looks like our nation is really heading towards bankruptcy and destruction of its socio-economy. BN is aware of this and so does the ruling coalition’s leaders.

The opposition parties and civil societies are also aware of the current situation and had initiated drives to inform the people what is currently happening in this government and our nation.

Inflation and the continuous rise of cost of living have affected almost every segment of our people regardless of race, religion and skin colour. The people are living in a state of worry about even when their next meal is going to come from.

What has this BN government done for our people? Did they come up with any concrete measures to ease the burden of our people? Until today, we have not heard or seen of any effective ones taking place. We only saw ad-hoc handouts, gifts, and some sort of small monetary rewards. That’s about it.

Instead of addressing measures to curb all those mismanagement, power abuse and corruption that has been taking place, the BN government is doing its best to distract us from all these real issues by drumming up racial and religious sentiments.

All of us know what is going on in the country. BN has sub-contracted their dirty works, tactics and politicking to their sponsored racial and religious extremist NGOs. Claims of Malays and Islam are under threat are well publicised that most of us think these racial and religious issues are real. Not only did they fan the racial and religious sentiments, they also brought up royalty issues in order to label some people as “derhaka” or treason in order to win support.

They are also using tactics now to split the current loose opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat which consist of reformist PKR, socialist-based DAP and Islamist PAS whose ideologies often conflict with each other.

The Allah and Hudud highlights are actually non-issues, some discussions and public forums on Islam are also actually non-issues, and the most recent discussion on air over a radio station is also a non-issue. But all these non-issues have been created by all those racial and religious extremist NGOs to suit their agendas. The Bible seizure is another unfortunate case. And today, the subject has turned into hatred and caused much suspicion among the multiracial and multi religious communities.

The hate actions initiated by all these extremists have also influenced the authorities somewhat and they have been forced to act on their behalf against those who wanted to know and seek the truth, labelling them as deviant, “derhaka”, “murtad” or whatever name they could come up with.

These actions are clearly distractions from the real facts and issues that are affecting our people and nation. It seems that many are already distracted by all these racial and religious bigots.

On the political front, public opinions are also split. In Pakatan, PAS and DAP are now in in open confrontation while PKR is still bogged down by internal rivalry. Many Malaysians are frustrated and disillusioned and sadly, they have nowhere to turn to.

Going back to BN is not an option many will consider. Neither is to continue supporting a fractured Pakatan.

So where do we go from here? Many Malaysians may just give up and leave the country.

That’s an option open to many.
