Is Perikatan Nasional planning to nail the parliament into the coffin?
Recently, we were informed that the rebel government’s minister in the prime minister’s department in charge of parliamentary affairs Takiyuddin Hassan had stated that the rebel government is planning to table a motion in the parliament to seek for the abolishment of all the current parliamentary select committees which are tasked to oversee and check on the government’s various activities, policies, implementations, budgets and GLCs.
After all these parliamentary select committees are abolished, the role of overseeing and checking on the government’s state of affairs will be replaced by a sole ineffective parliamentary select committee which will oversee the portfolios of all the government ministries.
Currently, the parliamentary select committees in place since 2018 are the Special Select Committee For Consideration Of Bills; Special Select Committee On Budget, Special Select Committee On Defence And Home Affairs; Special Select Committee On Gender Equality And Family Development; Special Select Committee On States And Federal Relations; Special Select Committee On Major Public Appointments; Special Select Committee On Election; Special Select Committee On Human Rights And Constitutional Affairs; Special Select Committee On International Relations And Trade; Special Select Committee On Science, Innovation And Environment; Public Accounts Committee.
By abolishing all these parliamentary select committees would mean denying parliamentary democracy and its role to provide oversight and scrutiny on government activities, policies and implementations, thus letting such to go on and our nation’s coffers flowing away like nobody’s business. It will be back to business for politicians particularly from Umno who were notorious in corruption and swindling of public funds during their 61-year old reign until May 2018.
The problem is why the prime minister Muhyiddin and Bersatu is doing all these? After all their efforts to exposed all the corruptions, power abuse, mismanagement and other kinds wrongdoings of Umno and Barisan Nasional during their reign for over 60 years until May 2018? Is it just because Muhyiddin is willing to sacrifice integrity today due to his desire to remain in power until the end of the 14th parliament term?
Letting all Umno and PAS MPs to take helm of most of the government-linked-companies, government-linked-investment-companies, statutory bodies, agencies and commissions are already posing a grave public concern on the possibility of the return of the olden days where corruption, power abuse, theft and mismanagement ruled the days in the government without checks or any scrutiny.
And now to add oil into the fire, the rebel government is planning to abolish all these parliamentary select committees to prevent any effective oversight or scrutiny on their upcoming wonders in government businesses and the state of affairs.
We wonder what will be the Perikatan Nasional rebel government’s next move? Are they going to eventually introduce laws to reduce the parliamentary sittings, reduce questioning time and the oversight roles, and probably the entire parliamentary system will be abolished in the near future and having all MPs being appointed by the government instead of being elected by the people?
Such are possible, as the move initiated by the rebel government is setting the precedence and before even the end of the 14th parliament term, we may see the National Security Council (MKN) taking over the governance of our nation and moving towards a collective dictatorship.
Is Perikatan Nasional (Bersatu, Umno, PAS) already having its plan in place, to nail the parliament into the coffin and move it right into the grave for good?
Well, let us not overlook on this. We have our duty as citizens to do. We cannot just allow the politics of theft or corruption or any crime lords take over our nation without any fight to restore our rights, integrity and democracy.
Our people must not be always carried away by racial and religious bigotry expound by Bersatu, Umno and PAS who are always using such move to split Malaysians of all races according to their political benefits.
If we continue letting them creating all the wonders of racial and religious extremism, tensions and suspicions, and behind you they emptied the nation’s coffers without us knowing it until our nation is declared bankrupt, by then it will be too late for us to salvage our nation from sinking.
