Fight factional politics with decent policies
Factional politics within political parties are common. From the strongest political parties to the weakest or smallest political parties, factions are deemed to exist in every of these political organisations.
From UMNO, MCA, MIC, PBB, SUPP, SPDP, PRS, PBS, to PKR, DAP, PAS, AMANAH, BERSATU, and furthermore PSM, PRM, PCM, BERJASA, IKATAN, IPF, KIMMA, MCC and many more. Factions do exist in all these political parties. This cannot be denied. Any party leaders who deny the existence of such are merely denying the fact that in politics, one needs to achieve its competitiveness in order to gain power.
In the recent incident, one after another allegation, sexual allegations emerged with sex videos, followed by a doctored confession of an alleged homosexual relationship aimed to discredit a leader of one faction within a political party.
Yes, in the beginning, when the news appeared, it became a nationwide headline, where everyone of us started to enjoy talking and discussing about it, after reading them in detail, gossips, speculations and guess who became too interesting to resist.
But sooner after all these stories flying around our minds, one would come to think it all over again, was it worth listening or discussing about all these? There’s a new government out there trying its best to outdo the previous government who lost the general elections last year.
When the new coalition of political parties came to power, many are rushing to fill the empty lots in the government. Political parties who are new in power of governance wasted no time in consolidating themselves in their respective positions, portfolios and other power house.
Political leaders gained power began to build their power base with the influx of new members into political parties, thus factions within political parties too began to rise in vast numbers each wanted to become the most powerful lobbying group in order to be nearest to their “Dear Leaders”.
In doing such, many resorted to competition, with many lead to factional disputes, infighting, contest for party positions and many more. In normal times, these factions will do their best to be at the highest competitive advantage over others. To make themselves to the front, many of them resorted to personal attacks, moral policing, race and religious focus, making smear allegations against one another and so on.
First of all, as members of the same political party, why resort to something which will tarnish the image of the party that they belong to? Why can’t factions come up with decent public policies to compete with one another decently instead of carrying out dirty and unhealthy politics within one’s political party? Why can’t they just compete decently, establish debates to justify one’s leadership policies, one’s intention to contribute to the party and the nation?
We could see that even in UK, the Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrat Parties have many kinds of faction within their ranks. Some were big factions, while many form into registered groupings in order to obtain funding and public support. Each of these factions also issued their public policies via the most available social medias, blogs and websites of their own.
Even in Australia, the Labor Party and its rival, the Liberal-Nationals also have factions within their ranks and they do compete professionally by justifying their leadership and positions via public policies of their own. In many occasions, these factions do agree with each other that the pride of their political parties are crucial in order to maintain voters’ confidence over them.
In this case, decent competition among these factions within political parties and any unhealthy way of politics are rightly discouraged in the name of ensuring the good name of their parties are not tarnished.
The crucial part here is, what politics we are in, party-to-party competition in general elections, factional competitions within one political party, are the same. Present your public policies for the people and party members to decide what is best for them and to the party.
This is how politicians should compete. Build up your competitive advantage by re-inventing, introduction of new policies, better visions, and on what you could contribute.
Going after the rivals’ sexual orientations or attacking one’s personal affairs, would it give a good advantage to the other? Yes, it will but did the other gain that via respected way?
It is all about what you could contribute for the people, party and the nation. It is not about what his or her sexual orientations or sexist acts could do for you, your party, the people and the nation. If one win in such way, will such victory be ethical?
